There are many reasons for redirecting URLs, as well as some basic access methods. For websites that already have a lot of traffic and good search engine results but need to change the domain name address, redirecting during the change is a good choice. Your traffic will still go to the old domain, but it will be automatically redirected to the new domain. Over time, as the search engine updates its database, the new domain will receive its own search results. Redirection may cause multiple Web URLs to be sent to the same website and may shorten complex URLs.
OverView
Determine if your site is running on an Apache server. It is important to continue using the .htaccess method-if you are unsure of, please consult your web host. Image Title-Redirect URL Opener Step. Find and download the .htaccess file. The Htaccess file is a file used by the Web server to check the site's error handling, security, and request redirection information. Check your root folder (where all files on your website are stored) and upload the files for editing.
Code
In the type code. Paste the following code into your .htaccess text file: “301 /old/oldURL.com http://www.newURL.com redirect” In the code, oldURL.com is the address of the landing page that your visitors should be redirected to, and http://www.newURL.com is the address you want your visitors to visit. There must be a space between oldURL.com and HTTP://.Donot include “http://www” in the (old) URL in the first part of the code! Most recommended sites use the code “301”, which means “permanently moved”. Explore other “300” codes to learn about other features.
Make Backup
Make a backup. Rename any existing .htaccess or HTML files to keep a backup. For example, use the name .htaccessbackup so that you can find and identify the file when you need to restore the previous code. Upload the modified file to the root directory of the old domain. Now that you have edited the code, you need to save the file so that the old URL can read it and redirect as planned.
Redirection
Check redirection. Open a new private browser window and enter the old domain name in your web browser. If you perform all operations correctly, it will be redirected to the new site. Using a private browser window will allow your browser to only access new redirects instead of relying on cached data. In addition to the private browser window, you can also clear the browser cache from the browser settings menu. For more information on how to do this, see Clear your browser cache.
Web Host
Contact your web host. If you are not sure about your coding abilities, or just want to redirect URLs without delving into the code, there are many redirection services available, and your existing web host may be one of them. Many reputable web hosts provide referral services and related support to help you achieve your goals. Check the features of your current hosting/subscription offers or contact them directly to see what options you have.
Third-Party Servcies
Choose a third-party service. If your web host does not provide redirection, there are many other options. You can do this for free, depending on the direction you need. Many services allow you to customize the redirect parameters, such as input (permanent or temporary) or using query parameter passing. Few redirection services allow HTTPS (secure) links to be forwarded.
Instruction
Follow the instructions for the redirect service. These services are usually very easy to use and guide you through the process by pointing you to the information you need at each step. Depending on the host of the site, you can set up redirection in the site settings. In some cases, you may still need to edit the Domain Name System (DNS) record for the domain name you want to redirect. These can be accessed through your web host.
DNS Record
Update your DNS records. Your third-party redirect provider will tell you if it is necessary, and you can retrieve these records from your web hosting account.
The instructions for editing DNS records in this step depend on the service you use, but the redirection provider and your web host usually have to follow simple instructions. Open the code of the page you want to redirect. This is another way to directly modify the webpage code, so you must first download the file associated with the URL you want to delete. Please note that in most cases, using meta-commands is not suitable for your redirection. Web pages with meta code redirects are often filtered by search engines because it is a popular spam technique.
